Individual Therapy for Older Adults
At Pasadena Clinical Group, individual therapy is the cornerstone of our practice. We provide one-on-one sessions designed specifically for adults 50 and older, offering a private, supportive space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and concerns with a trained clinician who understands the unique challenges of this stage of life.
Our therapists recognize that seeking help takes courage, especially for those who may not have considered therapy before. Whether you are dealing with a specific concern or a general sense that life has become harder to navigate, individual therapy can provide clarity, relief, and renewed strength.
How Therapy Helps
Therapy is not about having someone tell you what to do. It is a collaborative process in which you and your therapist work together to understand what you are experiencing, identify patterns that may be holding you back, and develop practical strategies for moving forward.
For older adults, therapy can help with:
- Processing difficult emotions such as sadness, anger, fear, or guilt
- Coping with loss, grief, and major life changes
- Managing anxiety, worry, and stress
- Rebuilding confidence and a sense of purpose
- Improving relationships with family members and loved ones
- Developing healthier thought patterns and coping skills
- Addressing feelings of loneliness or social isolation
What a Session Looks Like
Your first session is an opportunity for you and your therapist to get to know one another. We will ask about your background, what brought you to therapy, and what you hope to achieve. There is no pressure to share more than you are comfortable with — building trust is an essential part of the process.
Subsequent sessions typically last 50 minutes and are scheduled at a frequency that works for you, whether that is weekly, biweekly, or another arrangement. During each session, your therapist will help you explore the topics most relevant to your well-being, introduce therapeutic techniques when appropriate, and track your progress toward your goals.
Sessions can be held in person at our Pasadena office or via secure telehealth, depending on your preference and needs.
Benefits Specific to Older Adults
While therapy is valuable at any age, older adults often bring a depth of life experience that enriches the therapeutic process. Our clinicians are trained to work with the particular concerns that arise in later life, including:
- Navigating retirement and identity changes
- Adjusting to physical health changes or chronic conditions
- Coping with the loss of a spouse, partner, or close friends
- Managing the emotional aspects of caregiving
- Finding meaning and purpose in a new chapter of life
- Strengthening resilience and emotional well-being
We approach every client with deep respect for their autonomy, wisdom, and life history. You are the expert on your own life — we are here to help you see it more clearly and move through it with greater ease.
